Emily Homan finished with 16 points, while Maddie Peabody scored 14 points, tying her career-high with four three-pointers. Lafayette also tied its season-high knocking down nine triples in the contest.
Lafayette jumped out to an early 8-0 lead on the back of a pair of Peabody threes. A fast break lay-in from Jamie O'Hare pushed the lead to double figures and forced a Stony Brook timeout with 16:23 to play in the first half. Peabody's third triple of the night increased the lead to 11 at the fifteen minute mark.
Macklin knocked down another Lafayette three and completed the four-point play from the free throw line to bump the Leopard advantage to 15, 17-2. An 8-0 spurt from the Seawolves closed the gap to seven with 11 minutes to play in the opening period.
Stony Brook's run continued as the Seawolves pulled to within four, 19-15. Peabody's jumper from the elbow slowed the spurt briefly, but Stony Brook cut the Lafayette lead to two, 21-19 with six minutes left in the half.
With less than two minutes to play in the half, Macklin hit a triple from the wing to put the Leopards in front 29-27. At the 30 second mark, Homan completed a three-point play, but Stony Brook answered at the other end and the teams went into the break tied at 32.
Macklin's third three-pointer of the night gave Lafayette its first lead of the second half, but the Seawolves answered with a seven-point run to take a 41-35 advantage. Back-to-back buckets from Homan and O'Hare cut the deficit to two with 13 minutes to play.
O'Hare hit from the top of the key to give the Leopards a one-point edge, and Homan followed up an O'Hare drive to push the lead to three with 10 and a half on the clock. After Brya Freeland drew an offensive foul, Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby's running hook shot bumped the Lafayette lead to five, 51-46.
At the eight-minute mark Ottewill-Soulsby dropped in another bucket to maintain a four-point cushion. Peabody tied her career-high with her fourth triple of the night on the next possession, as Lafayette led 56-49.
A five-point swing for the Seawolves made it a two-point game with four and a half minutes to play, but Macklin answered with a bucket for the Leopards, making it 58-54. A pair of free throws from Stony Brook's Kori Bayne-Walker sliced the Lafayette advantage to two with two minutes to play.
The Seawolves tied the game with 40 seconds left on a driving layup from Sabre Proctor. Brittany Snow cleaned up a Bayne-Walker miss with four seconds left to give Stony Brook a two-point lead. Macklin's last second three was off the mark and Lafayette fell 60-58.
