Jersey City, N.J. - Emily Homan scored a game-high 21 points to lead Lafayette women's basketball past Saint Peter's, 49-34 on Sunday afternoon. The Leopards closed out their non-league schedule with a 7-4 mark.
Lafayette held a 43-35 advantage on the glass, and limited Saint Peter's to just 34 points, the lowest the Leopards have allowed this season. Anna Ptasinski chipped in eight points off the bench, while Ashley Lutz collected a game-high nine rebounds.
Homan scored four of Lafayette's first eight points, as the Leopards and Peacocks were tied at the 11:41 mark. Saint Peter's pushed ahead 14-13 at the final media timeout of the first half. With two minutes to play in the first half, Jamie O'Hare knocked down a pair of threes to give the Leopards a 19-16 lead, and Lafayette took a five-point advantage into the break.
Linnel Macklin opened the second half with a driving layup to increase the Leopards' lead to 23-16. Homan scored on back-to-back possessions to bump the lead to 27-18 with 17 minutes to play. An offensive rebound and a lay-in from Lutz, followed by a fast break bucket from Homan extended the advantage to 11.
Homan continued to score in the post, as the Leopards increased their lead to 13, 33-20 with 13 minutes to play. O'Hare found Homan on the low block, who finished to maintain the 13-point spread.
Another basket from Homan extended the Lafayette edge to 38-22 with 10:13 to play. Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby's hook shot at the nine-minute mark completed a Lafayette 7-0 run. Ptasinski buried a three-pointer from the corner to extend the lead to 20, 43-23 with five minutes to go.
Ptasinski knocked down another triple from the corner, as Lafayette went on to down Saint Peter's 49-34.
Lafayette opens Patriot League play against Army on New Year's Eve. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
