BALTIMORE - Seth Hinrichs scored 22 points and Joey Ptasinski hit five three-pointers to lead Lafayette past Loyola 84-71 in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament on Monday night at Reitz Arena. With the victory, Lafayette moves on to play No. 1 Boston University on Wednesday night at Agganis Arena.

Lafayette shot a season-high 63.6 percent from the floor, hitting 28 of its 44 field goal attempts. The Leopards' overall field goal percentage was a Patriot League Tournament record, while their 68.4 percent in the second half was also a program best.

Individually, Nick Lindner posted a team-high five assists to go along with his 14 points, while Bryce Scott added 12. Loyola held a 34-28 advantage on the glass, led by Jarred Jones' double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds. R.J. Williams dished out 10 assists for Loyola and Jordan Latham chipped in 10 points.

Loyola's largest lead of the night came on Latham's long jumper midway through the half that put the Greyhounds ahead 20-15. A 9-2 spurt by the Leopards helped them to a 24-22 after buckets by Dan Trist, Michael Hoffman and Lindner before Scott's first three-pointer. Following a putback by the Greyhounds, Hinrichs sank a Hinrichs jumper and Ptasinski buried his third three of the half to force a Loyola timeout and polish off the 14-4 run. Lafayette led 29-24 at that point and never relinquished the lead.

The Leopards closed the half on Lindner's pullup in the paint and went into the locker room with a 42-35 advantage on 60-percent from the field. Lafayette went 6-for-12 from beyond the arc and was led by Ptasinski's 12 points. Jones, who scored Loyola's first 12 points, finished the period with 18 to pace the Greyhounds.

A right-handed layup by Lindner and a triple by Ptasinski started the second half and Lafayette secured a 12-point cushion early in second half. Leading 51-39 a couple minutes later, the Maroon and White allowed Loyola to trim the deficit to 53-50 with an 11-2 run. Tyler Hubbard's three-pointer started the stretch, before he drained a long two and hit a corner three off an offensive rebound by Franz Rassman, pulling Loyola within three.

Leading 58-54 after trading baskets, Ptasinski hit his fifth three of the night to put the Leopards back ahead by seven with less than 12 minutes to go. Denzel Brito's jumper at the nine-minute mark drew Loyola within five (63-58), but Lafayette scored 17 of the next 23 points over a seven-minute span to put the game away.

Scott's pair at the charity stripe began the run, Lindner put in a floater and Trist's transition layup pushed the lead to 11 at 7:46. Loyola never got any closer than eight points following Williams' three on the ensuing trip as Lafayette won its fifth consecutive Patriot League Tournament opener.

Wednesday's game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and can be seen live on the Patriot League Network.

Game Notes:

Nick Lindner now has 121 assists on the season, moving him up to 17th on Lafayette's single-season assists list. His 121 are the most ever for a Lafayette freshman.
