West Long Branch, N.J. - Brian Bock netted a hat trick as the Leopards downed Monmouth 9-5 on Tuesday afternoon. Jake Hyatt made 11 saves in goal for the Leopards as they improved to 2-7 this season.

Bock opened the scoring for the Leopards midway through the first quarter when he took a feed from Cory Scheuerle. Monmouth tied the score three minutes later on a goal from Tyler Keen. Lafayette answered with a pair of goals in the final two minutes of the first period. Robert Orazietti and Sonny Round tallied late in the frame to help build a 3-1 advantage after one.

Round pushed the Leopard lead to three, 4-1, at the 8:15 mark of the second quarter. Monmouth cut into the Lafayette lead late in the half, but the Leopards maintained a 4-2 edge at the end of the first half.

The Hawks trimmed the deficit to one early in the third quarter, but Lafayette responded with four straight to build a five-goal. Bock started the run for the Leopards on a pass from Round. Morgan Westby continued the spurt, followed by another tally from Bock and Jason Sands first goal of the afternoon.

Monmouth scored late in the third, as the Leopards held an 8-4 advantage after three quarters. The Hawks cut the Lafayette lead to 8-5 with less than 10 minutes to play in the final period. Jake Mann added an insurance goal in the final minute as the Leopards beat Monmouth 9-5.

Round netted a pair of goals and handed out an assist, while Orazietti chipped in with a goal and an assist for the Leopards. Adam Broeckaert won 13-of-18 at the faceoff dot for the Leopards and scooped up a team-high six ground balls.

Lafayette returns to Patriot League play on Saturday afternoon in Worcester, Mass. against Holy Cross.
