JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Alyssa Finelli of the Lafayette women's soccer team chipped home a goal in the 57th minute to lead the Leopards past North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. on Friday evening, 1-0.
Following a scoreless opening half, Finelli took advantage of a midfield turnover and darted down the field toward the opposing goal. Her attack pulled the North Florida goalie off her line and Finelli maneuvered a chip over her head, off the post, and into the back of the net for the only goal of the game.
"The team played very well, particularly in the second half," head coach Mick Statham said. "They fought hard all game, showed great character, and Alyssa's goal was top notch."
Sophomore Danielle Sedillo posted two saves to earn her second straight win in shutout fashion. On the other end, North Florida's Megan Dorsey allowed one goal and recorded two saves in defeat.
The Ospreys led the way in shots, 12-7, and corner kicks, 4-3, but the Leopards made the most of their scoring opportunities on Finelli's finish. Kaelin King was tops in shots with four on the game and two of them on goal, while Finelli posted two shots and Olivia Heitz tallied one shot attempt.
Next up for the Leopards is a meeting with Jacksonville on Sunday at 1 p.m.
