JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Lafayette women's soccer team completed their two-game trip to Florida with a 3-0 loss at Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon.
Just nine minutes into the contest, the Dolphins' Marie Weckhurst fired a shot toward Lafayette keeper Danielle Sedillo, who saved it, but unfortunately right to the foot of Kaitlyn Bassett, who slotted it behind Sedillo into the open net for the 1-0 advantage.
The Leopards kept the Dolphins at bay for the remainder of the half, but let up two unassisted goals from Sope Akindoju and Lindsay Forrest to push the final score to 3-0 at the final buzzer.
"The team played hard today, but unfortunately, I think we got caught up with some slow decision-making due to fatigue from the hot conditions and Friday's game," head coach Mick Statham said. "Full credit goes to Jacksonville as they capitalized well on their opportunities. It's been a great trip and I'm very proud of our team for travelling and representing as Lafayette ambassadors in a positive way."
Sedillo made six saves in defeat, falling to 2-1 on the year, while the Dolphins' Sarah Sierra and Hannah Allerton combined for the shutout. Lafayette trailed in shots, 18-9, and corner kicks, 5-4. Alyssa Finelli, Samantha Potoczak, and Gabrielle Lassinger led the way with two shots apiece for the Lafayette attack.
Next up for the Maroon and White is a trip to Riverdale, N.Y. on Friday for a meeting with Manhattan at 7 p.m.
