ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Lafayette women's soccer team held with Navy for the majority of the first half before a late goal before the break and three second-half tallies proved to be enough as the Leopards fell in Annapolis, Md., 4-0.
With just five minutes to play in the opening 45 minutes and the score at 0-0, a Navy corner led to the first goal of the game. The Mids' Cat Macklin received the corner in the box, heading it toward the near-side post. The second and scoring header came off the noggin of Lily Kraemer, who put it up and over the jumping Lafayette keeper for the first score of the game.
Freshman Kelly O'Brien got the call in net for the Leopards, her first start of her collegiate career and second appearance of the season. O'Brien tallied nine saves on the night, allowing four goals for her second loss of the year.
The Mids added a pair of goals midway through the second half to break the game open and a third late as Navy went on to win it by a final of 4-0. Navy held the majority of the offensive chances, leading the way in shots, 28-6.
With the loss, the Leopards fall to 3-6-0 on the year and 0-2-0 in Patriot League play, while Navy moves to 5-3-3 overall and 1-1-0 in conference action.
Next up for Lafayette is a matchup with archrival Lehigh on Wednesday at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium at 7 p.m.
