Baltimore, Md. - The Lafayette women's basketball team came back from a 14-point first half deficit to come away with a 57-49 win on Wednesday at Loyola. The Leopards used a 15-0 run midway through the second half to complete the comeback.
Emily Homan paced the Leopards (10-6, 3-2) with a double-double, 17 points and 10 boards, while Maddie Peabody finished with 13 points in the win. Loyola (4-12, 2-3 PL) was led by Bri Betz-White with 15 points.
After exchanging baskets over the first four minutes, Loyola used a 16-3 run to take a 21-8 lead at the nine-minute mark. The Leopards cut the deficit to nine on a lay-in from Homan, but the Greyhounds were able to bump their advantage up to 14 with four minutes to play.
Lafayette used a 10-2 run to close the half, as Homan scored five straight points for the Leopards to cut the spread to eight, followed by another bucket from Homan with 16.4 seconds in the half made it a six-point game, 29-23.
Loyola scored the first six points of the second half to bump its lead back to double digits, 35-23. Anna Ptasinksi connected for three from the corner to trim the Loyola lead to 11, but the Greyhounds countered at the other end with a bucket.
Jamie O'Hare knocked down another Lafayette triple, followed by a block from Annette Snow to pull the Leopards to within ten. On the next possession, O'Hare drove baseline and finished with a reverse layup to cut the margin to eight. A Loyola turnover led to a Snow lay-in and the Leopards were back to within six with 13:05 to play.
Snow continued the Lafayette run with a driving layup, as the Loyola lead was down to four with 11:33 on the clock. A bucket from Brya Freeland cut the edge to two midway through the second half. Homan found Snow in the paint at the 8:45 mark, to tie the game at 39.
Freeland's lob-pass over the top to Homan gave Lafayette its first lead since the opening minutes of the game. After a Loyola triple, Peabody countered for the Leopards with a three of her own from the corner, as Lafayette led 44-42 with six minutes to go.
Another Peabody three pointer preserved a three-point Lafayette lead at the 4:52 mark, but Loyola's Steph Smith answered for the Greyhounds to tie the game at 47. With less than two minutes to play, Linnel Macklin dumped the ball to Homan down low, and the forward scored to give the Leopards a 49-47 advantage.
After a defensive stop, Macklin took the ball to the basket and finished to bump the lead to 51-47 with a minute to play. Snow missed the front end of a one-and-one, but Macklin came away with the offensive board and sank a pair from the free throw line.
