EASTON, Pa. – Freshman Anna Ptasinski made the most of her first career start for Lafayette, scoring a career-high 13 points, but the Leopards fell to Holy Cross, 64-46, inside Kirby Sports Center. Lafayette moved to 3-4 in Patriot League play and 10-8 overall, and the Crusaders improved to 3-4 in conference play and 7-13 overall this season.
Emily Homan finished with a double-double, 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Leopards, while Maddie Peabody scored 10 points and tied her career-high with four steals. Lafayette struggled from the field, shooting a season-low 26.7 percent (16-60).
Holy Cross had four players in double figures led by Katie Doherty with 16 points. Raquel Scott also finished with a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds) for the Crusaders. Holy Cross held a 49-38 advantage on the glass and a 32-16 edge in points in the paint.
The Leopards jumped out to an early 8-2 advantage, as Jamie O'Hare and Ptasinski each connected from beyond the arc in the opening minutes. Holy Cross went on a 10-2 run midway through the half to take its first lead, 12-10.
Another Ptasinski triple at the five-minute mark pushed the Leopards ahead, 17-14. The Crusaders answered with a three-pointer from Infiniti Thomas-Waheed and ended the half on a 12-3 spurt to take a 26-20 lead into the locker room.
Holy Cross scored the first five points of the second half to increase its advantage to 11, but a Peabody steal and layup, followed by a Ptasinski three cut the deficit to six at the 17:11 mark. Ashley Lutz knocked down a triple to keep the margin at eight with 16 minutes to play. The Crusaders used a 15-2 run over the next seven minutes to take a 50-30 lead.
The Leopards chipped away at the deficit, as Peabody scored five straight points. The senior buried a three and then came up with a steal and a lay-in to make it a 15-point game with five minutes on the clock. Back-to-back layups from Lisa Mifsud and Molly Hourigan pushed the Holy Cross lead to 19 and the Crusaders walked away with a 64-46 victory.
Lafayette makes the trip to Bethlehem on Sunday afternoon to renew its rivalry with Lehigh. Opening tip from Stabler Arena is set for 1 p.m.
