EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision at the hands of Boston University on Saturday afternoon at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
The Leopards lost senior co-captain Kelly Chickering to injury in the first minute of the contest and could never recover, giving up a trio of first-half goals to head into the locker room with a 3-0 deficit. The Terriers didn't let up, adding a 60th-minute marker to finish off the Maroon and White by a 4-0 final.
"We're still a pretty good team," head coach Mick Statham said. "BU is an excellent group that's well-coached with great players whose finishing today was deadly. I thought we played well and the spirit of the team was great. We did a lot of good things defensively and I was happy with the attitudes of the players for 90 minutes. We just got beat by a better team today."
The first tally came less than 10 minutes into the contest when a clear attempt from junior goalkeeper Danielle Sedillo was blocked and slotted into an open net by Christina Wakefield. Just three minutes later, a corner pushed the Terriers' lead out to two.
A low service was sent in by Rachel Bloznalis and side-volleyed toward goal by Jenna Fisher. Fisher's shot was deflected by Erica Kosienski and past a leaning Sedillo for the second score. Boston U. added a third before the end of the half in the 41st minute as McKenna Doyle took advantage of a Lafayette turnover deep in its defensive end. Doyle sent a cross to a wide-open Alex Schlobohm in the box, who sent a skidder into the net.
As the game moved to the second half, offense started to make way for more defensive play, but the visitors were still able to add a fourth goal to their column in the 60th minute. Doyle picked up her second assist, this time finding Fisher for a finish into the far side.
Shots were 8-4 in Boston U.'s favor and the Terriers led in corners, 5-3. Sedillo made one save for her third loss of the year, while Alyssa Parisi and Bridget Conway combined for the shutout with Parisi making a pair of saves for her sixth win.
Lafayette returns to Oaks Stadium on Tuesday for its final non-conference game of the year, hosting Columbia at 7 p.m.
