Box Score

WEST POINT, N.Y. – After a strong beginning to the first set, Lafayette was unable to carry over that success for the remainder of Friday night's match at Army West Point, ultimately falling 3-0 to the Black Knights.

The Leopards (10-6, 2-3 PL) held a 10-9 lead in the first set against the perennial league front runners, but the Black Knights pulled away for a 25-17 win in that frame, and they closed out the last two sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-18.

Jaden Pickell and Vanessa Wesley accounted for a majority of the damage for Army (12-6, 4-1 PL), combining for 33 of the team's 44 kills. Wesley's 15 kills came with a .571 attack percentage.

Lafayette held two-point leads on six separate occasions early in the first set. The set remained within reach in the later stages as well, with a kill from Elizabeth Walsh making the score 17-15, Army, past the midway point. The Black Knights, though, won eight of the final 10 points to secure the set.

The Leopards fell behind 8-3 early in set two, and were never able to get closer than four points the rest of the way. The third set was competitive early on, with Army holding on to an 11-8 advantage after 19 points, but the guests then surrendered seven-consecutive points and were unable to recover.

Tori Smith was the top attacker for the Maroon and White with four kills. She was also the lone Leopard to crack double figures in digs, totaling 10 for the match. Lafayette was held to a -.010 attack percentage on the evening.

The Leopards will have a quick opportunity to recover at Holy Cross tomorrow. The Crusaders (4-13, 1-4 PL) edged out Navy in five sets tonight for their first conference win of the season. Tomorrow's match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
