EASTON, Pa. -- Facing an Army team which has lost only twice in Patriot League play, Lafayette hung tough with the Black Knights for one set Saturday afternoon, but a consistent attack from the visitors eventually led to a 3-0 defeat for the Maroon and White.

Set scores were 25-20, 25-11, 25-8. Army (20-7, 12-2 PL) managed a .406 attack percentage overall, including a .484 attack rate in set three to put away the Leopards (11-14, 3-11 PL).

"I thought in set one we served the ball exceptionally well," head coach Terri Dadio Campbell said. "We had more aces than errors, and were able to control things a bit on our end offensively. In the end, though, Army is a very talented team and they played at a very high level today."

All three of Lafayette's service aces came in the opening set, including back-to-back aces from Meghan Donohue which made it 7-4 Leopards early on. While Lafayette's final lead of the frame came at 10-9 after a kill from Tori Smith, they remained within striking distance throughout. The Black Knights finally put things away by taking four of the final six points after leading 21-18 in the later stages.

Army continued to grow in confidence offensively in the final two sets, ending the match on an 11-0 run which included four kills from Amber Clay. She finished the afternoon with 11 kills while Nicole Perri had a match-high 12 kills.

Smith completed a strong weekend for the Leopards with a seven-kill, eight-dig effort on Saturday, one day after totaling 15 kills and 21 digs against Holy Cross.

"Tori has really stepped it up offensively the last couple weeks," Dadio Campbell remarked. "She's hitting higher and hitting harder, and it has really helped our offense."

Lafayette is down to one more home match in the 2015 season. Seniors Brianne Giangiobbe, Sarah Moult and Lauren Pisauro will be honored prior to next Friday's 7 p.m. contest against Navy from Kirby Sports Center.
