EASTON, Pa. – Emily Homan’s seventh double-double of the season, 19 points and 12 rebounds,  led Lafayette past visiting Loyola, 69-63 on Wednesday night in Kirby Sports Center. Jamie O'Hare also finished in double figures with 12 points.

Lafayette (12-12, 5-8 PL) snapped a three-game losing streak with the win, shooting a season-high 49.2 percent from the field. Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby tied her career-high with 10 points, while Ashley Lutz and Maddie Peabody finished with nine points apiece.

Loyola (6-18, 4-9 PL) was led by Colleen Marshall’s 17 points and eight rebounds, while Nai Brown finished in double figures with 12 for the Greyhounds.

Loyola knocked down four of its first seven three-pointers to build a 16-11 lead with 13 minutes left in the first half. A 9-2 run from the Leopards capped off with an O’Hare jumper pushed the Leopards ahead 20-18 midway through the first half.

A pair of buckets from Ottewill-Soulsby helped Lafayette maintain a 27-26 advantage with eight minutes to play in the first period. A Linnel Macklin three, followed by Homan’s basket in the post to give Lafayette a two-point cushion, and the Leopards went into the break ahead 39-37.

Back-to-back jumpers from Ashley Lutz and Homan extended the Lafayette lead to 43-40 early in the second half. A quick five-point spurt from the Leopards on a Macklin three and an O’Hare lay-in increased the Lafayette advantage to 50-42.

Loyola responded with seven straight points to cut the margin to three, 50-47 at the halfway point of the second half. A long two from Lutz bumped the spread to five points with 9:13 on the clock.

Four straight points from the Leopards, an Ottewill-Soulsby put-back and a Peabody jumper, increased the Lafayette edge to 60-51 with seven minutes to play. Homan made it a 10-point game with two free throws with 5:05 left.

With Loyola extending its defense, O’Hare was able to break the press and get all the way to the rim for two, as Lafayette continued to lead 64-54 at the 2:49 mark. Loyola cut the spread to six late in the game, but Lafayette held on for a 69-63 win.

The Leopards return to action on Saturday afternoon against Patriot League-leading American. Tipoff from Kirby Sports Center is set for 2 p.m.
