EASTON, Pa. - A 13-0 run midway through the second half helped Lafayette take down Loyola in the Patriot League Women's Basketball Tournament First Round game on Wednesday night to set up a date with American on Friday night in the quarterfinals.

Ashley Lutz had a career night for the Leopards finishing with a career-high 14 points and 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Jamie O'Hare had a team-high 16 points and Linnel Macklin chipped in 12 in the win. Loyola was led by Colleen Marshall's 17 points, but were limited to 25.4 percent shooting from the floor by the Lafayette defense. The win was the Leopards first Patriot League Tournament victory since the 2008-09 season.

The Leopards raced out to an early 7-0 lead on a three-pointer from Lutz three minutes into the contest. A steal and fast break layup from Maddie Peabody pushed the margin to nine with 15 minutes to play in the first half.

Loyola countered with a 13-2 run to take its first lead of the night, 13-11, at the 11:42 mark. Trailing 15-14, Lafayette used an 8-0 run over the six minutes capped off by a bucket from Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby to take a 22-15 into the final media timeout of the period.

Macklin's three extended the lead to eight in the final two minutes. A triple at the buzzer from the Greyhounds sent Lafayette into the locker room with a 29-25 advantage, despite Lafayette's leading scorer, Emily Homan, playing just eight minutes because of foul trouble.

Loyola trimmed the Lafayette lead to one on a three from the top of the key, but Homan answered in the low post with her first points of the game to push the edge to three, 33-30 with 16 minutes on the clock.

Back-to-back buckets from Macklin and O'Hare, followed by Lutz's third three of the contest made it a 10-point Lafayette lead. The spurt continued with Homan in the post and Lafayette held a 44-30 advantage with 11 minutes to go.

The Greyhounds countered with six straight points to trim the deficit to eight. Lutz's career-high fourth three pushed the lead to 11 and Macklin followed with her second of the night to extend the margin to 52-38.

Loyola sliced the Lafayette lead to 10 with 1:29 to play, but that was as close as the Greyhounds would get as the Leopards closed out the final minute for a 58-46 victory.

Lafayette makes the trip to Washington, D.C. for a quarterfinal matchup with American on Friday night.
