EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette's seventh inning rally fell a run short as Boston was able to hold on for a 3-2 decision in game two of a Saturday doubleheader. The Terriers topped the Leopards 12-2 in the series opener.

In that first game, Gabi Martinez cracked open a 3-1 game in the top of the fifth, driving a ball over the wall in straight away centerfield for a three-run home run. It was part of a four-run rally for the Terriers.

The Leopards and Lafayette starter Stephanie Thomas handed over an unearned run to start the game. BU had one hit and a pair of stolen bases in that first at bat. In the bottom of the inning, Lafayette used four singles to tie the game. With two outs and the bases loaded, Allison Brown pulled a ball through the left side to score Kelly Lallis.

Boston took the lead for good in the top of the second inning. Mandy Fernandez (double) and Moriah Connolly (single) drove in a pair of runs to lead 3-1.

The long ball hurt Lafayette in the late innings with Martinez's three-run homer in the fifth and Emily Felbaum's grand slam as part of a five-run seventh inning.

Thomas (1-11) took the loss, allowing seven runs (6 earned) on six hits in 4.1 innings while striking out five. Boston starter Makinna Akers (5-7) threw five innings and gave up one run on seven hits with two strikeouts.

The nightcap was a much closer affair. Lafayette put two runners on in the second and third innings, but could not break into the scoring column, leaving seven runners on in the game.

The Terriers (11-24, 3-8) finally broke the scoreless streak in the top of the fifth when Felbaum led off with a home run. Boston manufactured a run in the sixth, scoring on a sac fly and added a third in the top of the seventh to lead 3-0. Lafayette committed two errors in the seventh, but an inning-ending 6-4 lineout double play kept the Terriers within a reachable margin, 3-0.

Lafayette head coach Jexx Varner pinch hit Miranda Skurla (single) and Thomas (walk) to lead off the inning and both reached. Skurla later scored on a ground ball and Lallis singled home a second run before Rebecca Dvorak (2-for-4) grounded out to end the game.

Lindsey Cherry (2-11) took the loss, allowing three runs (2 earned) on four hits with a pair of walks and strikeouts. Melanie Russell, the reliever in game one, collected the win in game two, scattering three hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Akers, the winner in game one, earned the save, throwing three innings while giving up two runs on two hits.

Lafayette (3-30, 1-13) and Boston finish up the series on Sunday at noon.
