EASTON, Pa. -- The four runs Boston U. scored in the first inning proved to be enough as the Terriers closed out the series with a 10-2 win over Lafayette on Sunday at Metzgar Fields.

Senior Kelly Lallis was honored prior to the game as part of Senior Day. She was 1-for-2 with a triple and a spectacular sliding grab in her final home weekend action.

Boston (12-24, 4-8) was ready to go from the first pitch. The Terriers banged out four runs on five hits (triple, three doubles and a single) while sending eight batters to the plate against Leopard starter Lindsey Cherry.

Lafayette threatened in the bottom of the first inning as Jenna Didio (single) and Lallis (walk) both reached to start things. Rebecca Dvorak and Samantha Sweigart followed with hard hit flyouts to center before Bryn Gornick struck out to end the inning.

In the middle innings, the Leopard defense was solid. In the third, Brittany Younan lined a ball off the torso of Cherry but Sweigart was there to catch the ball in the air to retire the lead-off batter. Then, Allison Brown made an inning-ending catch near foul territory in rightfield.

In the top of the third, Cherry loaded the bases and head coach Jexx Varner made the call to the bullpen for Gornick. The junior and the defense worked out of the jam, getting two ground ball outs at home and the final out at first ball to keep score at 4-0.

The Terriers padded their lead in the top of the fifth. No. 7 hitter Lauren Hynes smacked a two-out, two-run run to right centerfield of Gornick. Stephanie Thomas came on in relief and struck out the final batter of the inning as Boston led 6-0.

The Leopards responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Lallis' first triple of the season came with two outs and scored Kristyn Marinelli after a lead-off single. Dvorak scored Lallis to cut the lead to 6-2.

The visitors put away the game in the top of the sixth. Lafayette committed two costly errors in the inning, leading to four unearned runs. Two runs scored on the second error of the inning and Emily Felbaum drove in two more with a bases-clearing double to the gap.

Lafayette loaded the bases in the bottom half of the sixth with Thomas and Marinelli singles and a Miranda Skurla double, but Makinna Akers was able strike out pinch hitter Stephanie Schreiber and get Didio to fly out to end the game.

Melanie Russell (4-6) held the Leopards to two runs on six hits. Cherry (2-12) took the loss, allowing four runs in six hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout.

Lafayette (3-31, 1-14) stays at home for a Thursday doubleheader with Villanova at 3 p.m.
