Rider Rides Hot Shooting to Win over Leopards

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Rider ran rampant from three-point land in the first half and ultimately defeated the Lafayette women's basketball team 76-58 on Monday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

Juniors Anna Ptasinski and Sammy Stipa led the Leopards (1-1) in scoring with 12 and 11, respectively. Freshman Olivia Gumbs put up eight points to go along with a team-high eight boards.

The Broncs (2-0) utilized the three-point shot early and often, connecting on their first three attempts while going on a 15-5 run to start the game. Rider buried two more shots from beyond the arc in the quarter and led 22-12 after the first.

The long ball continued to fall as the Broncs successfully found room from deep and at the half, Robin Perkins had 16 points for the Broncs, with 12 of them coming by the three. Perkins ended the night with a game-high 22 points.

The Leopards found success crashing the offensive glass, reeling in 11 offensive boards as a team in the first half, however, struggled to find room in close, shooting at just a 26.7 percent clip from the field.

At the half, the Broncs led 44-26 and maintained that lead throughout the third quarter. The Leopards pieced together their most efficient quarter of the game, making 50 percent of their shots.

Ptasinski, who led the team in scoring, tallied all 12 of her points in the second half. Lafayette was on a 9-0 run before Lexi Posset ended it by hitting an open three from the corner. The Leopards scored two more points before Posset buried another deep shot for the Broncs to seal the victory for Rider.

Lafayette outrebounded the opposition for the second straight game, corralling 37 compared to the Broncs' 34. Sophomore Angela Ribarich had two blocks in the game, giving her sole possession of 15th for all-time career blocks at Lafayette.

The Leopards will be back in action on Wednesday to take on Robert Morris in Lafayette's 2016-17 home opener.
