EASTON, Pa. -- Bucknell took both games of Saturday's Patriot League softball doubleheader, beating the Leopards 7-0 in game one and 6-3 in game two at Metzgar Fields.

In the first game, Bucknell (18-11, 4-1) put together a three-run sixth inning to break open the game. The Leopards, who were held to three hits, put the lead-off runner on in the first four innings, but left seven runners on in that span.

In the top of the second, Lafayette starter Kristyn Marinelli elevated a pitch that Lauren Hadley pulled over the leftfield wall for a 1-0 advantage.

The Leopards (7-19, 0-4) looked to answer in the bottom of the inning. Allison Brown ripped a double to left and she moved to third on a foul out, but an infield popup and a strikeout ended the threat.

Lafayette loaded the bases in the bottom of the third using an error and a hit batter. With two aboard, Brooke Wensel singled through the right side, but Carolyn Wan came up throwing from right field and the runner had to hold at third. Bucknell starter Dana Nielsen retired Brown, looking at a wide strike.

In the fourth, Lafayette put runners at the corners with one out. Pinch hitter Bryn Gornick, bunted foul with two strikes for the second out of the inning before Jenna Didio ended the scoring chance with a popout.

With two outs in the fifth, Marinelli had retired 12 batters in a row, but three straight singles, the final by Amanda Fazio, stretched Bucknell's lead to 2-0.

In the sixth, Bucknell scored on a squeeze bunt, single and sac fly. Anna Gimmestad started things with a one-out triple and eventually scored on the bunt. The visitors added two more in the seventh to run the final to 7-0.

Marinelli (2-5) allowed seven runs (five earned) on nine hits in the circle loss. Nielsen (8-4) fanned five and walked one while allowing just three hits.

In the second game, Lafayette trailed 5-0 through four innings before scoring three runs in the fifth and making a game of it in a 6-3 final.

In the top of the first, Lafayette starter Stacy Gordon hit Fazio with the first pitch of the game. Fazio, who was 18-of-18 on the season in stolen base attempts, was cut down by catcher Maddie Wensel trying to steal second. Wensel repeated the feat in the fourth inning. Gordon struck out Meghan Kovac for the second out of the inning, but the Bison wouldn't go award. Hadley followed with a two-run double for the 2-0 advantage.

Bucknell added two more in the third on Gimmestad (3-for-4) double and a throwing error. In the fourth, Mariah Midyette reached on an error and later scored on a Fazio single. That single brought Stephanie Thomas into the circle in relief of Gordon (3.1 IP, 6H, 5R, 3ER) who moved to 2-3 with the loss.

The Leopards made it a two-run game in the fifth inning. Miranda Skurla led off with a single and Marinelli followed with a walk. Maddie Wensel (2-for-3) doubled in Skurla for the Leopards' first run. Gornick and Didio both had productive outs, using groundouts to cut the deficit to 5-3 at the end of five.

Bucknell added an insurance run in the seventh with Gimmestad's RBI-double for the 6-3 final.

Fazio (8-6) struck out five and walked one while allowing three runs on six hits. Thomas had a solid outing, throwing 3.2 innings while surrendering a run on three hits with four strikeouts.

Lafayette and Bucknell wrap up the series with a single game on Sunday scheduled for 1 p.m. at Metzgar Fields.
