BOSTON, Mass. --For the second straight day, Lafayette could not solve Boston U. starter Melanie Russell as she struck out eight and held Lafayette to five hits in a 5-0 series finale on Sunday.

The Terriers (19-20, 5-4) jumped out for three runs in the first inning off Lafayette starter Kristyn Marinelli and never looked back. Emma Wong tripled in a run and Gabi Martinez and Alex Heinen also plated runs with singles. Heinen's single prompted a pitching change, as Lafayette went to Lindsey Cherry (5.1 IP, 2H, 1ER, 3BB, 2, K) out of the bullpen and she was able to get the final out of the first.

Lafayette had a chance to answer in the second. Stephanie Thomas and Maddie Wensel started the inning with singles. A sac bunt by Miranda Skurla moved both runners 60 feet closer, but Russell struck out Didio and got Morgan Biddle to fly out to end the inning and strand the runners.

Wong singled and scored in the fourth on a fielder's choice and then singled in a run with two outs in the bottom of the fifth for the 5-0 lead. That was more than enough for Russell who scattered five hits in six innings before giving way to Lauren Hynes in the seventh.

The Leopards had another offensive chance in the sixth when Jenna Orlando and Brooke Wensel each reached on singles before Russell struck out Allison Brown and was able to get Thomas to line out to center.

Lafayette (12-27, 2-10) next plays on April 30, hosting Colgate for a three-game weekend series.
