ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Lafayette volleyball team fell to Navy in three sets (25-17, 25-14, 25-15) on Friday evening.
The two teams traded points in the early portion of the first set, as the score was knotted at 4-4 and 6-6 before Lafayette took a slim 10-8 lead after a kill from Alexis Capers. Navy took the momentum from there, using a 7-0 run to build a lead that they did not relinquish, winning the set 25-17.
The Leopards kept things close at the beginning of the second set as well, but Navy utilized two 4-0 runs to bring the score to 18-11. A kill from Christian Luhnow halted the Midshipmen's run but Navy continued to build on its lead and took the set 25-14.
The final set of the evening saw the Midshipmen jump out to an early lead, using an 8-0 run to open a 16-5 lead. A kill from Tori Smith brought the Leopards within eight, but it was not enough as Navy saw out the set to a 25-15 win.
Luhnow led the Maroon and White with five kills, while Julia Howard recorded a team-high 15 assists. Lexie Caraveo chipped in 11 digs.
The Leopards are back in action on the road tomorrow as they take on Patriot League foe American at 4 p.m.
