EASTON, Pa. - As part of the Hoops High Road program under the direction of former Lafayette men's basketball player Alan Flanagan '15, Athletes C.A.R.E. will host a youth camp at the Boys and Girls Club of Easton on Saturday, April 22 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The camp is available to boys and girls from grades 1-10 as attendees will receive instruction and personal insights from current and former collegiate student-athletes and coaches.
"This event will provide a unique opportunity for attendees to learn from current and former collegiate basketball players, while also raising support for the Easton Boys and Girls Club and Athletes C.A.R.E.," Flanagan said.
The Hoops High Road program was developed in 2017 to generate social and economic value in heavily populated urban zones affected by cyclical poverty and a deterioration of the motivational ethos that drive individual socioeconomic progression. Its vision is to create focal points in communities that provide safe and healthy outlets for local youth.
"An athlete isn't simply someone who plays a sport, it's infinitely greater than that," Flanagan added. "An athlete is someone who lives with a sense of pride, purpose and commitment to their team, friends and family, and community each day. That's what being a student-athlete at Lafayette is all about, and that's the foundation for everything we do at Athletes C.A.R.E."
Athletes C.A.R.E. was founded in 2012 by former Lafayette men's soccer player Alec Golini '14 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission of fighting hunger and homelessness, and supporting communities in need.
