BALTIMORE – The Lafayette volleyball team opened a two-match weekend with a 3-0 loss to Loyola on Friday evening at Reitz Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.
The Leopards just couldn't get it going on Friday, falling by set scores of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-17. The loss drops the Maroon and White to 5-16 overall on the season and leaves them still searching for their first conference win at 0-9.
Grace Tulevech led Lafayette with seven kills offensively, while
Kelly Austin and
Madi Wahrmund added four apiece, with three from Wahrmund coming in the opening set.
Julia Howard added 13 assists and
Hannah Goodacre patrolled the back line to the tune of seven digs.
Loyola jumped out to early leads in all three sets, putting the Leopards on the back foot. Lafayette couldn't overcome those early deficits in the first and second sets, but fought hard in the third, eventually tying it midway through at 16-16, forcing a Greyhounds timeout.
Unfortunately, the effort in the comeback faltered from there as Loyola rattled off seven straight points before the Leopards stopped the run at 23-17. A service error from Howard and an ace from the Greyhounds' Abby Hamilton finished it off at 25-17.
Lafayette stays in the Delmarva area through the night, traveling to Washington, D.C. to battle with American on Saturday. Opening serve is slated for 2 p.m.
