BALTIMORE, Md. - The Lafayette men's lacrosse team opened up Patriot League play on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 19-5 contest to No. 10 Loyola in Baltimore.

The Leopards hung tough early as an Alex Mezey goal off a feed from Conor Walters started the second quarter, cutting a three-goal lead to two at 4-2. However, an 11-goal run followed from the Greyhounds to put the game out of reach.

Loyola improves to 2-1 on the year overall and 1-0 in Patriot League play. Lafayette falls to 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference action, suffering back-to-back defeats for the first time this year.

Sophomore Andrew Chase netting his first career goal in the fourth quarter as one of five different scorers for the Maroon and White. Freshman John Natoli, seniors Alex Mezey and Luke Smith, and junior Conor Walters netted the other four for Lafayette.

Junior goalie Jonathan Anastos made 11 saves between the pipes in his 49:52 of action, while freshman Jake Floyd-Jones saw his first collegiate action with three goals allowed and one save in 10:08. Loyola's Jacob Stover made three saves in the victory, his second of the season.

Shots favored Loyola by a 50-27 margin on the day and the Greyhounds also controlled possession, winning 18 of the game's 28 faceoffs. Loyola was favored in ground balls, 33-18, and forced Lafayette into 20 turnovers compared to 12 of its own.

The road doesn't get easier for the Maroon and White, taking on No. 9 Army in their next contest. The Leopards will host the Black Knights on Saturday, March 3 with opening faceoff set for 1 p.m.
