EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College volleyball team recorded its first two victories of the season Friday with a 3-1 victory over Manhattan, followed by a 3-2 win over Coppin State at
Kirby Sports Center in the Crosstown Tournament.
In the day's first game, the Leopards (2-2) were led by freshman
Grace Tulevech who had a match-high 18 kills, while hitting .310, to set a new career high. Tulevech also recorded 5 service aces and eight digs in the victory over the Jaspers (0-5).
In the second match, junior
Katrina Ruggiero led the way, going 19-3-38 while hitting .421 to help the Maroon and White over the Eagles (1-4). Ruggiero's 19 kills set a new career high for the tri-captain.
Tulevech tallied 17 kills in match two, to go along with 2 service aces and 8 digs while freshman
Leanna Deegan was steady with nine kills.
Junior
Julia Howard racked up 29 assists in the opener, followed by 38 in match two.
The Leopards hit a season-high .279 against Coppin State and had a season-high 10 service aces against Manhattan.
Lafayette will make a quick turnaround, playing its third match of the Crosstown Tournament on Saturday at 10 a.m. against Rutgers, followed by a 4 p.m. showdown with Rider, both at
Kirby Sports Center.
