Men’s Soccer Nets Last Minute Victory at Stony Brook

Gibson breaks the scoreless tie with seven seconds to play

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Lafayette College men's soccer team defeated Stony Brook on Saturday night, 1-0, when junior James Gibson netted the game's lone goal with seven seconds remaining.

After a scoreless first half, it appeared the second 45 minutes would result in the same manor. That's when sophomore Martin Ssessanga found a streaking Gibson who chipped in his first career goal to give the Leopards (2-1) the 1-0 advantage.

Freshman Alex Sutton had another strong showing in goal against the Seawolves (1-2), recording six saves, marking his second-consecutive shutout.

The defensive anchors of senior Joe DeStefano, juniors Christian Williams and Diego Gomera-Tavarez, and sophomore Andrew Venezia, who all played 90 minutes, provided their freshman keeper the support needed.

The Leopards are off to their best start since 2015 and will travel to Siena on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. matchup to end a three-game road trip.
