EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College men's soccer team picked up its first home victory of the season on Friday night, defeating La Salle, 2-0, at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
The Leopards (4-2) got off to a quick start when sophomore
Andrew Venezia found a running freshman
Sebastian Varela who headed it home for his first-career goal to open the scoring in the fourth minute.
In the second half of play, junior
Ryan Goncalves took a corner kick in the 48
th minute that found the head of junior
Dylan Royalty. It slipped passed the La Salle (2-3) goalkeeper to give the Leopards some insurance in a 2-0 lead.
Once again, the Maroon and White was stellar on defense allowing just one shot on goal the entire contest, which freshman
Alex Sutton made a routine save on. The backline of senior
Joe DeStefano and juniors
Christian Williams and
Diego Gomera-Tavarez played all 90 minutes in the shutout effort.
Lafayette will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Fairleigh Dickinson for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Knights.
