Men's Soccer Draws 1-1 Tie at FDU

Gomez's equalizer and Sutton's six saves fives the Leopards their first tie of 2018

TEANECK, N.J. – The Lafayette College men's soccer team drew a 1-1 tie on the road Saturday night against Fairleigh Dickinson as junior Chris Gomez's goal in the 31st minute was the equalizer in the contest.

The score was Gomez's second on the season for the Leopards (4-2-1) as sophomore Andrew Venezia tallied his third assist in 2018.

Fairleigh Dickinson (3-2-2) opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Ideal Shefqeti found the back of the net off a scramble inside the box.

Freshman goalkeeper Alex Sutton made six saves to match his career high, while the backline of senior Joe DeStefano, juniors Christian Williams and Diego Gomera-Tavarez, and Venezia played all 110 minutes for the Maroon and White.

Lafayette is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Quinnipiac at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium at 7 p.m. before opening Patriot League play on the road at Bucknell on Sept. 22.
