WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Leopards 35-33 set two victory was not enough for them to take the match as they fell to Army on Tuesday night.
The loss drops them to 12-10 overall and 1-5 in Patriot League play.
Army (14-6, (4-3)) started the match off strong, coming out of the gates with a 4-0 scoring run to start the first set. They would go on four more scoring of three points or more to take the first set over Lafayette (12-10, (1-5)) 25-17.
The second set proved to be more of a battle. Army started off the set with a 4-0 run before a service error by the Black Knights and a kill by freshman
Grace Steurer got the Leopards on the board to make it 4-2. Army would then extend its lead to 11-4 before the Leopards would respond with a six run scoring run of their own to pull within one and make it 11-10. From there, both teams kept the score within one until Army pushed their lead to four off a three run scoring run.
The Maroon and White once again responded with a scoring run of their own, adding six points to their total to make it 25-24, in favor of the Leopards. From there, the set would be tied eight more times until the score stood at 33-33. It would be a kill from sophomore
Leanna Deegan and an attack error by the Black Knights that would secure the 35-33 set two victory for Lafayette.
With the match tied at one each, Army would finish off the match by winning the third set 25-15 and the fourth set 25-13.
Deegan led the Leopards, totaling 12 kills. Sophomore
Grace Tulevech totaled 10 and Carrera-Justiz recorded nine.
The Leopards will stay at home for their next two matches. They welcome American on Saturday for a 4 p.m. match and Bucknell the following Friday for a 7 p.m match.
