Volleyball Earns Second PL Win

The Leopards took down Bucknell in four sets

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College volleyball team got its second conference win of the season on Friday night, taking down Bucknell in four sets 3-1.

Sophomore Leanna Deegan recorded a season-high 23 kills. Sophomore Grace Tulevech also hit the double digit mark, putting up 12 and marking her ninth straight match recording double-digit kills.

Bucknell (13-7, (2-7)) took the first set in quick 19 minutes, 25-19. They then came out to take a 3-0 lead in the second set before Lafayette (13-11, (2-6)) had a chance to get on the board off a Bison service error. The Bison pushed their lead to 23-21, looking to close out the set, before the Leopards started their comeback.

Sophomore Abby Devlin made make her first appearance of the season for the Leopards, coming in to serve and helping to propel them to a three-point scoring run to help them take the lead 24-23. An attack error by the Leopards would once again tie it up at 24-24. From there the set would see the scored tied one more time at 25 each before Deegan recorded back-to-back kills to give them the 27-25 second set win.

The third set saw the opposite start of the second with Lafayette this time taking the early lead. The Bison tied it up 2-2 and the two squads would go back and forth until an attack error by the Bison, a service ace by junior Jenna Bailey and back-to-back kills once again by Deegan, would push the Leopards ahead 17-13. From there they held onto the lead and would close out the set, 25-18, off a kill from Tulevech and a service ace by freshman Ellie Carrera-Justiz.

Set four saw the Leopards jumping out to a 6-2 lead and holding the lead the rest of the set for the 25-15 set four win and to win the match, 3-1.

"Every person on the floor and on the sidelines has a job to do," head coach Ryan Adams said, "We just reset after the first set and focused in."

This is the first time since 2017 that the Lafayette College volleyball program has had two Patriot League victories in a season. They are also on track for their best home record since 2015, when they finished the season 8-7 at home. The Leopards currently stand at 8-5 at home this season.

Up next for the Leopards is a trip down the road to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to take on Lehigh for the second meeting of the season. Lafayette is looking to flip the results from the two squads first meeting earlier this season when the Mountain Hawks won the hard-fought match in five sets.
