PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Lafayette College men's soccer team fell to Drexel, 2-1, Tuesday night to close out its non-conference slate.
Freshman
Hale Lombard led the Leopards with one goal and two shots with one being on goal. The goal was his fourth of the season. He is now tied with teammate freshman
Yiannis Panayides for the most goals on the team by a freshman so far this season.
The game started off with four quick corners, three by Lafayette (8-5-3 (4-2-1 PL)) and one by Drexel (6-8-2 (2-4-1 CAA)). The Leopards looked like they would get the first point on the board 12 minutes into the game off an own goal by a Drexel defender but the they would be called offsides and the score would stay 0-0.
It wouldn't stay 0-0 for long as Drexel would be the first to find the back of the net seven minutes later, sneaking it past sophomore goalkeeper
Jack Cisneros to put the Dragons up 1-0. The half would end with a shot by junior
Kyle Robbins but it would be saved by Drexel's goalkeeper to head into halftime 1-0 in favor of Drexel.
Lafayette came out quick in the second half, with Lombard heading in the equalizer off a long pass by sophomore
Will Echeverria. The Dragons would add one more, quickly taking the ball down to the opposite end of the field and netting their second goal of the game less than a minute later, making it 2-1.
Lafayette has two regular season Patriot League matches remaining. They welcome Bucknell on Saturday for its last regular season match at home and close out the regular season with a trip to Annapolis on Wednesday to take on Navy.
