The Leopards tied Bucknell 0-0 in double overtime

EASTON, Pa. – On senior day, the Lafayette College men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 double overtime draw with Bucknell on Saturday, clinching a spot in the Patriot League tournament for the first time since 2012.

With the win, Lafayette (8-5-4 (4-2-2 PL)) clinches a spot in the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 2012 as well as secures a winning overall season record. The last time the Leopards appeared in the league tournament, they were named tournament champions and would go on to fall to Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

From the start, the game was a defensive stalemate for both sides. Bucknell (5-6-6 (2-2-4 PL)) firing the first shot three minutes into the game. The first half would see 12 shots total with Bucknell taking eight and Lafayette taking four. The second half saw little action as well as only seven shots total were taken with Bucknell taking three and Lafayette taking four. As neither team could find the back of the net, at the end of regulation, the score stood at 0-0, sending the game into overtime.

The first overtime saw the Leopards having a chance to walk away with the victory in the 98th minute when senior Ryan Goncalves fired a corner kick right in front of Bucknell's goalkeeper but it was kicked away at the last second, ending the first overtime still in a 0-0 draw.

The Bison came out fighting in the second overtime, firing three shots and having a chance to win off a corner in the 102nd minute but sophomore Alex Sutton would make the necessary saves, ending the game in a 0-0 draw.

Sutton led the way for the Leopards, making six saves and recording his eight shutout of the season. Freshman Hale Lombard led the way in shots for Lafayette with three and senior Adam Bramson totaled two.

Lafayette will travel to Annapolis, Maryland on Wednesday for its final regular season game. They currently stand in third in the league standings and Navy stands in fourth. Final seeding and first round opponent for the Leopards will be decided after their game with the Midshipmen.
