Leopards Fall to Navy in Regular Season Finale

Lafayette will host No.5 Colgate in the PL Quarterfinals on Saturday at 3 p.m.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Lafayette College men's soccer team fell in their final regular season game on Wednesday to Navy, 1-0.

Freshman Yiannis Panayides and junior Martin Ssessanga both led the way for the Leopards with three shots and one on goal. Sophomore Marcos Kitromilides totaled four shots, sophomore Nick Hazel had two and senior Ryan Goncalves and sophomore Sebastian Varela each had one.

Lafayette (8-6-4 (4-4-2 PL)) started off the game with two quick back-to-back shots by Ssessenga and Kitromilides less than a minute into the contest but neither found the back of the net. From there both sides would find themselves in a tight defensive battle. Navy (12-3-1, (5-3-1 PL)) would have the best shot of the first half about 20 minutes in but sophomore Alex Sutton grabbed the ball before it could cross the threshold, keeping the score 0-0.

Navy would open up the second half with a shot that was just off the mark and both sides would go back and forth until the Midshipman would find a way past Sutton for the lone goal of the game to put them up 1-0 in the 81st minute, securing the victory.

With tonight's results, Lafayette has clinched the four seed heading into the Patriot League tournament on Saturday.  They will host the fifth seed, Colgate, at 3 p.m. at Oaks.
