EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College volleyball fell in four sets to Loyola on Friday night in
Kirby Sports Center, dropping to 2-8 in Patriot League action.
"We played hard, we stayed aggressive," head coach
Ryan Adams said, "We just made more errors than they did."
Leading the way for the Leopards was freshman
Ellie Carrera-Justiz with 15 kills and 41 total attacks and sophomores
Grace Tulevech and
Madi Wahrmund with eight kills apiece. Tulevech recorded 33 total attacks while Wahrmund totaled 14.
The first set saw Lafayette (13-13, 2-8 PL) earning the first point of the set off an attack error by Loyola (12-13, 5-6 PL) and from there the Leopards never lost the lead. After being tied 3-3, a kill by freshman
Grace Steurer and a service ace by sophomore
Kelly Austin would put the Leopards up 5-3. From there the Maroon and White would extend their lead to 19-13 before the Greyhounds would attempt a comeback, bringing the score to 24-19 but an attack error by the Leopards would give them the 25-21 victory.
The next three sets would see the opposite results.
Set two saw Lafayette jumping out to a quick 2-0 start before Loyola would take control of the set and grab the 5-3 lead. From there the two squads would see the lead change three times before the Greyhounds would take a 20-19 lead and would take the set 25-20.
Loyola would take the final two sets winning the third set 25-18 and the fourth set 25-14.
The Leopards are set to face Navy tomorrow at 4 p.m. Tomorrow's match is also senior day for the three seniors of the class of 2020,
Julia Howard,
Katrina Ruggiero and
Sonia Musso.
