Trio of Leopards Hit Season-Highs in Loss to St. John's

Sophomore Makaila Wilson and seniors Sarah Agnello and Alexis Santarelli all recorded season-highs

QUEENS, N.Y. – The Lafayette College women's basketball team fell in its second road game of the season to St. John's, 76-44, Wednesday night.

Despite the loss a trio of Leopards recorded season-highs. Senior Alexis Santarelli notched a season-high 14 points. Sophomore Makaila Wilson was right behind her with her season-high 11 points and senior Sarah Agnello finished with a season-high nine points.

St. John's (2-0) won the opening tip and would go out to take an early 8-0 lead in the first quarter and it wouldn't be until sophomore Nicole Johnson put up a jumper three minutes into the game that Lafayette (1-2) would get on the board.

Later in the quarter it would be Wilson again, draining back-to-back layups to pull the Leopards within one, making the score 13-12 in favor of the Red Storm. Santarelli would put one in in with 28 seconds left on the clock to end the first quarter with St. John's up 22-14.

An Angello three-pointer would bring Lafayette within eight after being down 10 near the start of the second quarter with 6:45 left to play in the half, making it 29-21. But the Red Storm would run away the half, scoring 18 to hold a 39-25 lead heading into the half.

The Red Storm would start the second half by going on a seven-point scoring run to put their lead to 46-26. Wilson would eventually break the run, putting up her ninth point of the night.

Santarelli would put in two more buckets for the Leopards near the end of the third quarter but St. John's would have the final say, draining a three-pointer from outside the arc to make the score 58-36.

St. John's would hold Lafayette to eight points in the final quarter to close out the game, 76-44 and holding the Leopards to their lowest scoring point total so far this season.

The Leopards return home on Sunday, welcoming Duquesne for a 2 p.m. matchup at Kirby.
