Leopards Drop OT Contest on Sunday

Lafayette fell in overtime to Duquense on Sunday afternoon

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College women's basketball team fell 73-65 in overtime on Sunday to Duquesne in Kirby Sports Center.

Junior Natalie Kucowski recorded her third double double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Jess Booth had a career-high day going 1-4 from the arc, 3-4 from the charity stripe and recording a career-high and season-high eight points and two steals, playing 33 minutes.

Junior Drew Freeland also notched a season-high eight points and junior Jiselle Havas notched a season-high eight points as well.

Lafayette would get on the board first off a three-pointer by senior Sarah Agnello three minutes into the game and from there would stretch their lead to five before Duquesne would get a point on the board.
The Leopards would hold their lead through the first quarter to head into the second half of the half with a 16-11 lead.

Duquense would get the first points on the board in the second quarter to make it 18-13 but from there the Leopards would stretch their lead to 25-16. The Dukes would attempt a comeback, bringing the score within four but the Leopards were able to hold the lead at the half, 29-25.

The second half saw the Dukes hanging with the Leopards through most of the third quarter until Lafayette would push ahead off another Angello three-pointer and two made free throws by Booth to push Lafayette's lead to 10. The Dukes would tack on another two points to end the quarter 48-39, in favor of the Leopards.

Duquense would get the first points on the board in the fourth quarter, with just under eight minutes left to play, slowly starting to close the gap, 48-41. Havas drained a three-pointer two minutes later to make it 51-45, Lafayette.

But from there, the Dukes would mount a comeback with a five-point scoring run to pull themselves within one. Booth would add another three to make it 54-50 but the Dukes would bring it within one once again, to make it 55-54 and would tie up the score later in the quarter 57-57, to force the Leopards first overtime game of the season.

Kucowski would get the Leopards on the board first in overtime but the Dukes countered with two points of their own to keep the game tied at 59-59. From there, Duquense would run away with the game and get the 73-65 overtime victory.

The Maroon and White will stay at home for their next game, welcoming LIU to Kirby on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
