Leopards Complete Comeback Over Manhattan

Lafayette wins third-straight to improve to 4-3 on the season

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College women's basketball team overcame an 11-point deficit to beat Manhattan College in overtime, 60-53, to win its third-straight game.

Two Leopards hit the double-digit point mark in the game with senior Alexis Santarelli recording a season-high 16 points to go along with a season-high four made free throws, nine rebounds and a career-high two blocks. Fellow senior Sarah Agnello joined Santarelli with double-digit points, recording a season-high 15 and a season-high three made from beyond the arc.

Junior Sydney Sabino also had a season-high night, putting up six points, one assist and making two from the paint and two from beyond the arc.

Junior Natalie Kucowski recorded a season-high 18 rebounds, giving her 742 career rebounds and moving her up to seventh all-time on the Lafayette all-time rebounds list. She is 27 away from moving up to sixth all-time.

After falling down by six after the first period, Lafayette would come back in the second to pull within five at the half, 27-25.

With a little over five minutes left to play in the third period, Lafayette (4-3) found themselves down by 11. After almost a two-minute scoring drought by both sides, sophomore Nicole Johnson would make a jump shot to start to cut down the Jaspers (1-4) lead and by the end of the third period, the Leopards had pulled within three, 40-37.

And from there, Lafayette wouldn't look back. Junior Drew Freeland would drain one in from beyond the arc to pull the Leopards within two, 42-40. She would then draw a foul and make one of her free throws. The Jaspers would respond with a made free throw of their own to put them back up ahead 43-40. But Agnello would answer with a three-pointer to tie up the score for the first time all game at 43 each.

The Maroon and White would take control of the game from getting the lead off a Sabino three-pointer and from there would extend their lead to five before a timeout was called by Manhattan.

The Jaspers would pull back within two with a little over five minutes left in the fourth period and would even it up at 49 each with just under three minutes to play, putting up a quick two points to take a 51-49 lead at the under two minute mark.

Manhattan would foul sending Agnello to the line. She made two of her three from the line to even the score the 51, sending the game into overtime.

Lafayette would take the lead quickly in its second overtime game of the season and was able to hang on, pushing its lead to seven to close out the game, 60-53.

Next up for the Leopards is a trip to Ithaca, New York to battle Cornell. They will then be on the road for two more before returning to Kirby on Dec. 29 to play UMBC in their final nonconference game of the season.
