HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Lafayette College volleyball team lost in three-straight sets to Colgate Friday night, bringing their Patriot League record to 2-10.
Freshman
Ellie Carrera-Justiz led the way for the Leopards with seven kills and 26 total assists. A trio of Leopards was right behind her with sophomore
Kelly Austin, sophomore
Leanna Deegan and sophomore
Grace Tulevech each recording six kills.
Colgate (19-6, 12-1 PL) jumped out to the early 2-0 lead in the first set. Lafayette (13-14, 2-10 PL) would tie it up at six apiece off a Tulevech kill. From there, the set would be tied six more times before the Raiders pulled away due to a series of errors committed by the Leopards and would take the first set 25-10.
The second set saw a different start as Lafayette would be the ones to jump out to an early lead. Back-to-back kills by Austin and one by Tulevech would put the Leopards up 4-1 and then two setting errors by the Raiders would help the Leopards push the lead to 6-1.
Colgate would eventually tie the set up at seven and the two squads would seemingly go point for point until the Raiders would go on a five-point scoring run to take the lead and take the second set 25-17.
Despite the Leopards winning the first point of the third and final set, the Raiders would take the lead and never look back, cruising to a 25-18 third set victory to take the match.
Lafayette will stay on the road, traveling to Worchester, Massachusetts to take on Holy Cross Saturday at 4 p.m. The last meeting between the Leopards and Crusaders earlier this season saw the Leopards walking away with the five set victory.
