BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Lafayette women's lacrosse team trailed for the majority of the contest at Binghamton on Wednesday evening, but fought back with all four goals in the final 14:32 to steal a 13-12 victory on the road.
Following an opening eight minutes that saw the Leopards ahead by a 2-1 margin, Binghamton ripped off a five-goal run to take control at 6-2 with 13:44 to play in the half. Freshman
Olivia Cunningham stopped the run at the 12:37 mark, but the Bearcats continued to respond, taking a 9-5 lead into the halftime intermission.
The second started similarly with the Bearcats answering a
Jane Kirby score with two of their own to lead 11-6 with 22:31 to play. Then, Lafayette made its move, scoring seven of the next eight goals, including all four in the final 14:32 to completely swing the game and erase the deficit as the clock ran out on a 13-12 win.
Freshman
Caroline Curnal had the best game of her rookie season, scoring three goals and adding an assist for four points to go along with four draw controls on the night. Junior
Bella Alampi scored a pair at the most critical time, both coming in the Leopards' late run including the game-winner with three minutes to play.
Senior
Jane Kirby kept her hot scoring going with three goals and an assist, while Cunningham finished with two goals and an assist and senior co-captain
Emma Novick added a pair of scores. Senior
Hannah Davey added one as well to round out the scoring for the Maroon and White.
Sophomore
Quinn Lacy was a rock between the pipes once again for Lafayette with 14 saves for her fourth victory of the year, while Binghamton's Taylor Passuello stopped 12 Leopard shots in the losing effort. Co-captains Novick and
Annelise Kinney helped out Lacy on the defensive side of the ball with a game-high two caused turnovers apiece.
Overall shots finished at 33-29 in favor of the Leopards and Lafayette picked up 20 ground balls to Binghamton's 14. The Bearcats held a 14-13 edge in draw controls, but committed seven more fouls than the Maroon and White on the night.
Lafayette takes winning momentum to Patriot League play this weekend, returning to Fisher Stadium to host Holy Cross in the conference opener on Saturday with opening draw set for 1 p.m.
