SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – The Lafayette baseball team struck first on Friday night, but Wofford took the series opener, 12-1, at King Field in the first of three.

Freshman
Justin Johnson opened the ball game for Lafayette (3-11) with a double to right center field before senior
Richard Villa drove him home with a base hit to left to make it 1-0.

Johnson was 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to seven games while Villa was 1-for-3 with an RBI and hit by pitch.

Wofford (12-7) came back to score a pair of runs in the second to take the lead and push across 12 unanswered the rest of the way.

Senior
Dan Leckie was productive at the plate for the Leopards, going 2-for-4 with a double and making some tough plays in center field.

Sophomore
JP Woodward made the start and went 5.0 innings on the mound, allowing four earned on six hits and striking out three.
Â
Wofford's Lawson Hill was a thorn in the side of the Leopards all night, going 4-for-4 with a double, two runs, and an RBI while the Terriers' starter, Austin Higginbotham, went 8.0 innings with only four hits and four punch outs, allowing the lone run in the first.

The series picks back up tomorrow afternoon for the middle of three games with first pitch set for 2 p.m. and the finale scheduled for a 1 p.m. start on Sunday.
