CLEARWATER, Fla. – Providence broke a tie ballgame with a six-run fourth inning en route to a 7-1 win over Lafayette softball on Sunday in the USF Softball Series.
 
The teams traded runs in the second inning. The Leopards scored via an 
Ellen McDonnell RBI-single She plated 
Hannah Lee who had reached on a one-out double.
 
In the top of the fourth, the Friars (12-10) broke open the game with six runs with four hits and two Lafayette errors. Hadley Tate, a pinch hitter, and Jennifer Tomasso, did the bulk of the damage each with a two-run homer.   
 
The Leopards had a solid scoring opportunity in the fifth when 
Addison Goldwait led off with a double. Lafayette eventually loaded the bases with two outs, but could not cut into the 7-1 final.
 
Kinzi Van Wyk took the loss, despite allowing only one earned run on eight hits. 
Hannah Cook (1.1 IP) and 
Stacy Gordon (2.0 IP) finished out the game in the circle. Megan McCune (4-3) threw three innings and struck out three in the win.
 
Lafayette (2-15) will have Monday off from game action before wrapping its Florida trip on Tuesday against Columbia at noon.
