LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Lafayette baseball team had everything working in Lawrenceville, New Jersey on Tuesday afternoon, taking care of Rider by a 15-0 score on the road in non-league action.
Junior
Mark Anderson combined with
Connor Jones and
Nick Maiorano for a four-hit shutout, combining for seven strikeouts on the day. Anderson went six full innings allowing just two hits and a walk with five K's, while Jones added an inning with a hit allowed and a strikeout, and Maiorano struck out one with one hit in the final two innings to close it out.
On the offensive side, four different Leopards registered multi-hit performances with
Justin Johnson and
Jake Sniegocki each knocking in four runs apiece on two and three hits, respectively.
Ethan Stern added a 2-for-3 effort with three walks, and
Dylan Minghini went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The game sailed through the first four innings with the Leopards up by a 2-0 margin into the top of the fifth. Then, the bats came alive as an RBI single from
Trey Durrah preceded back-to-back-to-back two-RBI knocks from Sniegocki, a double,
Hunter Silvernail, a single, and Johnson, a home run over the left field wall, his first of his rookie campaign.
The Maroon and White played add-on from there as dominant pitching cruised the game to its later innings. Sniegocki and
Richard Villa added RBI singles around a two-run double from Johnson to make it 13-0 in the top of the seventh, and Stern's RBI knock, followed by a sacrifice fly from Villa in the ninth put the final at 15-0.
The victory improves the Leopards to 17-27 this season, while Rider falls to 13-30. Anderson picks up the win on the mound, improving to 2-5 this spring.
The Leopards return home and get right back on the diamond tomorrow afternoon at Kamine Stadium, hosting Seton Hall at 3:30 p.m.
