Kirby Nets 150th Career Goal in Loss at Army

Early second-half run sinks Leopards in West Point

WEST POINT, N.Y. – A 4-1 run at the beginning of the second half broke open a back-and-forth affair in West Point, New York on Saturday afternoon as the Lafayette women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-14 contest to Army in Patriot League play.

Senior Jane Kirby was a force on the offensive end with four goals, bringing her career total above the 150 milestone. Kirby joins classmate Emma Novick as the second Leopard this season to record her 150th career score.

The game was played within a two-goal margin through the first half as the Black Knights went into halftime with a slim 10-8 advantage. Senior Hannah Davey scored out of the locker room to pull the Leopards within one, but Army answered with four of the next five to put the advantage at its largest, 14-10, with 24:18 to play.

The Black Knights kept Lafayette at bay into the final stretch before back-to-back tallies from Davey and Novick brought the Leopards within two at 15-13 with 5:52 remaining. Unfortunately, the Maroon and White run ended there as Army stood tough defensively and saw out the clock on a 16-14 final.

The win improves Army's overall record to 10-3 and 3-2 in conference play, while Lafayette falls to 5-8 on the year and 1-4 in Patriot League action.

Novick and Davey each added hat tricks to Kirby's four goals as the offensive leaders for the Leopards. Sophomore Colleen Bannon also chipped in with two goals, tying a career-high.

Sophomore Quinn Lacy took the loss between the pipes with three saves on the afternoon. Shots finished at 35-28 in favor of Lafayette and ground balls were even at 13-13. Draw controls went the Black Knights' way, 18-13.

Lafayette gets right back to conference action next weekend at home, hosting Loyola for a 12 p.m. tilt at Fisher Stadium on Saturday, April 13.
