EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette men's soccer team opened the 2019 season with a win, defeating Siena College (0-1) in a 4-0 contest Friday night, securing their first season opening win since 2014 and their first four goal game since 2008.
"We've worked really hard since last November to redefine our style," head coach
Dennis Bohn said, "This win was the first step in executing that."
It was all Leopards from the start with freshman
Yiannis Panayides finding the back of the net first for his first collegiate goal, off an assist by freshman
Hale Lombard in the 13
th minute of the game. About 15 minutes later, sophomore transfer
Marcos Kitromilides found the back of the net off a cross by
Dylan Royalty to put the Leopards up 2-0.
The underclassman continued to dominate on the field for the Leopards in the second half. Freshman
Benji Grossi found Lombard to make it 3-0. Sophomore
Sebastian Varela quickly followed up with the Leopards fourth goal of the game off a cross from senior
James Gibson.
Sophomore
Alex Sutton had a solid opening night in the net for the Maroon and White playing all 90 minutes. He only faced five shots and recorded two saves.
The Leopards (1-0) will be back in action on Sept. 3 when they welcome Farleigh Dickinson to Oaks for a 7 p.m. match-up.
