TEANECK, N.J. – The Lafayette volleyball team pulled out its second consecutive victory tonight as they defeated Fairleigh Dickinson in four sets, 3-1.
The Leopards (3-5) were led by a trio of underclassman who each put up double-digit kills. The trio was led by sophomore
Leanna Deegan, who tallied a season-high 15 kills and 15.5 points, while hitting .462. Sophomore
Grace Tulevech recorded double-digit kills for the fifth time this season, matching a season high 13.
Freshman Ellie Carerra-Justiz was the third Leopard of the night to hit the double digit mark with 11, while totaling 12 dig and three block assists.
Fairleigh Dickinson (0-7) came out strong in the first set, outhitting the Leopards .148 to -.023 and quickly taking the set 25-15.
Seeming to need the first set as a warm-up, the Leopards jumped out to an early lead in the second set, keeping a five point lead or more throughout most of the set and going on 10 scoring runs. They totaled 19 kills as a team and this time outhit the Knights .485 to .074.
They then cruised to victories in set three (25-13) and set four (25-16).
Up next, the Maroon and White will welcome Siena, Delaware State and Merrimack as they host the Lafayette Invitational this coming weekend. They will play Merrimack on Friday at 7 p.m. and then turn around and play two matches on Saturday against Delaware State and Siena at 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively. Â
