PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Lafayette men's soccer team spoiled La Salle's perfect home record, and walked away with the 3-0 win Tuesday night in Philadelphia to match the programs best start through six games since 2009.
Lafayette (4-1-1) wasted no time trying to find the back of the net with sophomore
Marcos Kitromilides firing two at La Salle's goalkeeper at the start of the game. But it would be senior
Ryan Goncalves who would find the back of the net first in the 19
th minute to put the Leopards up 1-0, scoring his second goal of the season.
About 20 minutes into the second half, it would be Goncalves again, netting his second of the night and third of the season, off a cross from junior
Andrew Venezia. La Salle (3-3) had opportunities to equalize but it would continue to stay all Lafayette for the rest of the game.
Sophomore
Sebastian Varela who would score in the 79
th-minute off assists from both senior
Dylan Royalty and senior
Chris Gomez to make it 3-0 and secure the Leopards fourth win of the season. Varela's goal tonight marks his fourth goal of the season.
Sutton tallies his fourth shutout of the season and recorded three saves on the night. His three saves were the only three shots the Explorers took on goal throughout the game.
The Leopards now turn their attention to Saturday at noon as they are set to open up Patriot League action as they welcome Boston University to Oaks. The game will be a white out game and the alumni game where there will be a celebration to honor the 1998 and 1999 teams.
