WASHINGTON, D.C. Â - The Lafayette Women's Soccer team managed to get on the board late but it was not enough in a 4-1 setback to Georgetown on Sunday at Shaw Field.
It was a step up in competition for the Leopards, going against the 15th ranked team in the country from the Big East Conference. The visitors hung tough during the first 45 minutes, trailing only 1-0 at intermission. The Hoyas bunched a pair of goals in a 10 minute span early in the second half to surge ahead 3-0.
Lafayette (2-3-1) was able to do what both Duke and Bucknell were not against the Hoyas, when they got on the scoreboard in the 88th minute as sophomore midfield
Riley Dowd scored the first goal of her career. Â Georgetown answered a minute later to provide the final margin.
The Leopards finished with six shots on the afternoon - a pair from
Krista Kissell and one each from Dowd,
Abbie Bresnahan,
Sara Oswald and
Alexa Buffa. Â
Natalie Neumann was credited with four saves and
Maggie Pohl three as the hosts put 11 shots on goal.
Lafayette will play its fifth consecutive road game on Wednesday when they travel to Jersey City, N.J. to take on Saint Peter's in an afternoon match. The Leopards finally return to Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium at 2 p.m. on September 15 when they host Marist.
