Leopards Earn Second-Straight PL Win

Lafayette defeated Army for its first league road win this season

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Lafayette once again used a big third quarter to propel themselves to victory, taking down Army for its second-straight Patriot League win Wednesday night.

Lafayette improves to 4-3 in conference play for the first time since the 2007-08 season.

The Leopards were led by junior Natalie Kucowski who totaled her 12th double double of the season with 17 points and 17 rebounds. Junior Drew Freeland also found herself in double digits with 16 points.

The first two quarters proved to be an offensive struggle for the Maroon and White as they only shot 21.6 percent in the first half of the game.

Kucowski got the momentum going for the Leopards in the third quarter with a layup off an assist from sophomore Nicole Johnson. Freeland followed Kucowski's layup with a layup of her own and floated in a three-pointer right after that to bring the Leopards within one, 31-30.

Less than 30 second later Agnello gave the Leopards their first lead of the game, 32-31, on a layup off an assist by Kucowski.

Lafayette kept its momentum going and with just over three minutes left to play in the quarter, Army (5-12, 1-6 PL) had only scored five points to the Leopard's 14.

Army retook the lead, 39-37 and pushed it out to 41-37 before Johnson came up big with a three to put Lafayette back in the lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Army tried to retake the lead multiple times in the final 10 minutes but a key layup from sophomore Naomi Ganpo put the Leopards back in the lead for good with 6:55 left to play in the game.

Two back-to-back fouls by the Black Knights put both Johnson and Kucowski at the charity stripe, both making both of their shots with 13 seconds left in the game to secure the win.

The Leopards are now home for two-straight games. They are set to host Lehigh on Saturday for alumni day in the first round of The Rivalry at 2 p.m. and welcome Colgate on Wednesday.
