Leopards Defeat Mountain Hawks for Third-Straight Win

Lafayette took down Lehigh for the first time since 2015

EASTON, Pa. – For the first time since 2015, the Lafayette Women's Basketball team defeated Lehigh to extend their win streak to three.

Junior Drew Freeland led the way for Lafayette with 17 points. She shot a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and went 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.

Junior Natalie Kucowski was right behind her with 15 points and 11 rebounds for her 13th double-double of the season. Seniors Sarah Agnello and Tasha Vipond totaled nine points each.

Lafayette (9-9, 5-3 PL) once again used a big third quarter, outscoring Lehigh (13-6, 5-3 PL), 19-9, to propel itself to victory.

After being down 30-22 at the half, Kucowski's layup less than 30 seconds into the second stanza cut the Mountain Hawks' lead to six. Another Kucowski score, followed by pairs from Freeland and sophomore Nicole Johnson tied the game at 30. The two teams exchanged leads until Johnson put in another in the paint to tie the score back up at 38.

Vipond added three more points for the Leopards before the end of the third quarter to give them a 41-39 heading into the final 10 minutes.

Down 45-43 three minutes into the fourth quarter, Freeland knocked down her third three of the afternoon to put the Leopards back up one before adding another basket in the paint to stretch the lead to three.

The lead changed sides four more times before Kucowski put the Leopards up for good and from there, they held onto the lead to close out the game.

Lafayette improves to 5-3 in league play, staying on track with the 2007-08 squad. The win also keeps them perfect in Patriot League action at Kirby.

The Maroon and White stay at home in their next contest for a Wednesday night rematch with Colgate. Earlier this season, the Raiders defeated Lafayette by a 73-52 score in Hamilton, N.Y.
