Baseball Drops Heartbreaker to Panthers in Extras

Sniegocki had a team-high four RBI's in the loss

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Lafayette dropped the second game of the series to High Point, 6-5, in 10 innings on Saturday afternoon at Willard Stadium.

The Leopards were led by senior Jake Sniegocki and junior Colin Hartey who combined for the Leopards' five runs on the afternoon. Sniegocki contributed four off a grand slam in the top of the fourth and Hartey's came off a single in the top of the sixth.

High Point (2-0) got on the board first in the bottom of the first and added two more to make it 3-0, Panthers, at the end of the third.

Lafayette's (0-2) bats came alive in the fourth inning. Junior Colin Hartey started off the inning with a walk and then sophomore Dylan Minghini singled down the left side to advance Hartey to second. Hartey then advanced to third on a throwing error by the Panthers' left fielder to put runners on the corners.

Junior Bill Russo drew a walk to load the bases for Sniegocki who smacked a grand slam over the left field fence to give the Leopards the 4-3 lead.

Lafayette added one more run in the fifth off a Hartey single to make it 5-3 at the end of the inning.

After the Leopards went out in order in the top of the sixth, High Point threatened to take the lead, loading the bases with only one out but would ground into a double play to end the inning.

High Point added two runs in the bottom of the eighth and the Leopards were unable to put any runner across the plate in the ninth, to send the game into extra innings.

The Panthers loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the tenth and a single down the left field line was all they needed to bring the winning run home.

The Leopards and Panthers are set to play in the final game of the series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
