Senior Day Brings Navy to Kirby Saturday

Leopards set to honor four-member senior class prior to regular season finale

OPENING TIP
* Lafayette welcomes Navy to Kirby Sports Center for Senior Day on Saturday afternoon as the Leopards are set to honor their four-member senior class. Myles Cherry, Lukas Jarrett, Cal Reichwein and Kyle Stout will play their collegiate regular season finales.
* The Leopards have clinched a first-round bye in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament and will play on the road at at either Army, American or Boston U. in the quarterfinal round on Thursday.
* With a win on Saturday afternoon, the Maroon and White would secure their first winning record in conference play since going 10-4 in the 2012-13 campaign.

LAST TIME OUT
Senior co-captains Myles Cherry posted his ninth career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, but saw the Leopards fall behind a hot-shooting American team on Wednesday night.

The Eagles shot 58 percent from the floor in the 79-59 final at Bender Arena. Cherry (13) joined Lukas Jarrett (17) and Leo O'Boyle (11) in double figures for the Leopards.

American's Sa'eed Nelson was part of the efficient scoring effort, converting on 14-of-18 attempts from the floor. He hit for 30 points on the night when he became the school's career scoring leader.

For the game, Lafayette shot 41 percent overall and 32 percent from beyond the arc. On the glass, the Leopards held a 31-25 advantage led by 10 boards from Cherry and six from Jarrett. The Leopards were hampered by 18 turnovers that lead to 27 AU points.

LAST MEETING
Lafayette battled through a tough shooting performance at Navy on Jan. 18 to head to the final stretch even, but the Mids' Cam Davis sunk the winning bucket from the top of the key with nine seconds to play to send the Leopards to a 68-66 road defeat in Annapolis, Md.

Despite Lafayette's top-four shooters going a combined 2-for-17 from beyond the arc on the day, the Leopards remained in the game behind a career-high 22 points from senior co-captain Myles Cherry, who gave the Leopards the 66-65 lead before Davis' dagger. Freshman Leo O'Boyle also provided a major source of offense, scoring 15 of his 18 points on 5-of-6 from three-point range in the first 20 minutes.

Davis was sensational for the Mids, finishing with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-17 from the floor and 5-of-9 from three-point range. The junior added seven rebounds as well, pacing a 42-36 advantage for the home side on the glass.

PLAYOFF PUSH
Lafayette heads into the Saturday's finale with the opportunity to be either the five or six seed in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament. The Leopards have secured a first-round bye and will travel to either Army, American or Boston U. in the quarterfinal round on Thursday.

A win on Saturday secured the fifth seed and a trip to fourth-seeded Army. A loss puts Lafayette in the six seed and likely results in a trip to third-seeded Boston U., unless Holy Cross were to beat American, dropping the Eagles to the third seed and sending the Leopards to Washington, D.C.

THE SKINNY ON THE MIDS
Navy, picked to finish ninth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, began the league slate as the surprise of the conference, going 6-3 through the first half of Patriot League action. Unfortunately, the Mids haven't been able to keep that pace, dropping six of their last eight to enter the regular season finale at 8-9 in conferece play and 14-14 overall.

Much of the offense for the visitors falls on the shoulder of Cam Davis, who puts up 16.4 points per game. John Carter, Jr. and Greg Summers are the other offensive impact performers at 10.9 and 10.0 points per outing, while Summers paces the Mids on the glass at 6.5 boards per night. Rebounding is Navy's distinct advantage in Saturday's matchup as the Mids average 4.6 more rebounds per outing than their opponents this season.
